Candle Craftsmanship

Step 1

FRAGRANCING

LEHMANN DESIGN HAUS fragrances are the result of skilled craft. Developed in partnership between founder Andrew Lehmann and master perfumers, our fragrances are created from non-toxic oils made from synthesized molecules found in nature, essential oils, and natural extracts.

All our fragrances are free of phthalates and paraben, and comply with The International Fragrance Association (IFRA) standards.

Step 2

PREPARING

All our candles are handmade in our Santa Barbara, California studio. Their journey begins by cleaning the glass of impurities and placing the pure cotton wick on the base of the glass vessel using a non-toxic glue.

Step 3

POURING

Once our proprietary blend of coconut and soy wax heats to the perfect temperature, the finished fragrance oil is added to the molten wax at varying temperatures and blended for optimal dispersion. This process gives our candle a nice cold throw (what you smell when the candle isn't lit) and a beautiful hot throw (what you smell after lighting the candle). During this process, we weigh the candle to the exact ounce.

Step 4

CENTERING

Once the wax starts to solidify, the wicks are straightened by hand to ensure that they stay perfectly centered.

Step 5

TRIMMING

After the wax has solidified, we go over the candles' tops using a heat gun to smooth them. The wick is then cut at a specific height to ensure an optimal first burning. Due to the composition of natural wax, it tends to shrink in cooler temperaments, making the wick a little longer; this may require further trimming the wick before the candle's first burn. Important tip: Trim the wick to 1/4 inch before each lighting. If the flame exceeds 1 inch in height, the wick is too long and needs to be trimmed further.

Step 6

LABELING

Each candle vessel receives one last polishing, and then the label is centered and affixed by hand. We use a special black vellum made from recycled wood pulp. Chic, elegant, and minimal.

Step 7

PACKAGING

Every candle is carefully packaged to give each candle optimal protection. Each candle format comes in its own customized box- minimalistic with the LEHMANN DESIGN HAUS attributes.
