The Unsung Hero: Why the Vessel is Part of the Art

The Unsung Hero: Why the Vessel is Part of the Art

In the world of home fragrance, most of the attention is rightfully given to the scent itself. But for me, the vessel is just as important. In fact, it's an extension of the fragrance's soul. At LEHMANN DESIGN HAUS, our concrete vessels are not just containers; they are sculptural pieces, and they are the unsung heroes of the Colossal Concrete Candle.

Form and Function

My background in design and my experience with both digital and physical experiences have taught me a simple truth: form and function must coexist in perfect harmony. A beautiful candle that doesn't burn well is a failure of both. That's why I designed our concrete vessels to be both aesthetically powerful and highly functional.

  • The Look: The raw, minimalist texture of the concrete is a deliberate choice. It provides a brutalist, modern contrast to the delicate scent within, creating a beautiful tension. The neutral color allows the candle to integrate seamlessly into any interior design style. It's a foundational piece that acts as an anchor for a space.

  • The Feel: The weight and texture of the concrete feel substantial and luxurious in your hand. This tactile experience is a crucial part of the ritual of lighting a candle.

The Vessel as an Afterthought

Many companies see the vessel as an afterthought—a cheap way to hold a product. But I see it as a second canvas. The vessel is what you see when the candle is not lit. It’s what you keep long after the wax has burned away. I designed our concrete vessels to be repurposed into something beautiful once the candle is finished—a small planter, a vase for new life.

By treating the vessel as a piece of art, I am not only creating a more beautiful product but also encouraging a more sustainable and intentional approach to home fragrance.
